Abstract
Background: S. aureus is one of the main causes of infections in hospitals and community. Individuals aged <20 years has the percentage of carriage of S. aureus greater than those in adults. Treatment of infections by S. aureus becomes more complex in relation to the emergence of resistant S. aureus against various antibiotics. This study aimed to determine the prevalence difference of carriage of S. aureus and antibiotic resistance patterns on three elementary schools. Methods: The study design was an observational and cross-sectional survey approach. Subjects were 3-5 grade elementary school students who meet the criteria for inclusion and exclusion on three elementary schools. Samples were interviewed and taken a nasal swab. Nasal swab results were identified the germ tipe and antibiotic resistance testing (MDRO and MRSA) using disk diffusion method. Readings in accordance with CLSI criteria 2010. Result: Of the 319 subjects obtained mean prevalence of 31.3% (100 subjects) to 3 elementary schools, 20% were resistant to tetracycline. Prevalence of carriage of S. aureus on Kristen II YSKI elementary school, Pandean Lamper 02 elementary school, Manyaran 01 elementary school consecutive 29.5%, 37.6%, 28.2%. Prevalence of MRSA on Kristen II YSKI elementary school, Pandean Lamper 02 elementary school, Manyaran 01 elementary school consecutive 46.2%, 23.7%, 26.5%. Prevalence of MDRO on Kristen II YSKI elementary school, Pandean Lamper 02 elementary school, Manyaran 01 elementary school consecutive 46.2%, 13.2%, 18.4%. Strains resistant to chloramphenicol on Kristen II YSKI elementary school, Pandean Lamper 02 elementary school, Manyaran 01 elementary school consecutive 38.5%, 5.3%, 6.1%. Conclusion: There were no significant the prevalence differences of carriage of S. aureus and MRSA on three elementary schools. The prevalence of MRSA strains, MDRO and strains resistant to chloramphenicol at a Kristen II YSKI elementary school statistically higher than in the two other elementary schools.
