Abstract

Background: Staphylococcus aureus’s carriers have an important role for spreading many diseases caused by Staphylococcus aureus. In Semarang, there is no publication about prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus’s carriers among young healthy individu. Some demographic and economic factors associate with Staphylococcus aureus’s nasal carriage. Objective : To know and to analyze the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus’s carriers and economyc demographyc factors that associate with Staphylococcus aureus’s nasal carriage among the young healthy individu in the community. Methods : The research design was cross sectional. Samples consist of 102 students, were obtained with simple random sampling. Nasal swabs were cultured in human blood agar at 37o C. Data were analyzed with descriptive methode. Result : Prevalence of S. aureus’s carriers among the students of SMA 3 Semarang is 30,39 % and proportionally, boy has higher prevalence (36 %) than girls (25 %). 29 carriers were Moslem and 21( 72,41% ) doesn’t have usual behaviour to inhale water to the nostrils when they ‘wudhu’. Carriers parent’s income is higher than 2010’s Regional Minimum Income of Semarang City. Conclusion : Prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus’s carriers in the young healthhy community in Semarang City is 30,39 % with the number of incidence is higher in boy and individu who does not have usual behaviour to inhale water to the nostrils when they ‘wudhu’. Parent’s income higher than Regional Minimum Income (UMR) does not decrease the incidence of S. aureus’s carriers. Keywords : Staphylococcus aureus’s carriers, students of SMA 3 Semarang
