Abstract

Background : Rhizome kencur (Kaempferia galanga Linn) has been used by Indonesian people as traditional empiric drug. The aim of this study is to know if rhizome kencur can reduce the pain Method : Experimental study with post test only control group design. Animal used contains of 25 male balb/c mice, 2-3 month years old, 15-30 gram weight. Divided into 5 groups, each consist of 5 mice. First group is the control group was given cmc orally; second, third and fourth group is treaten group was given extract with dosage 19,2 mg, 25,6 mg and 32 mg every 20 gram BB; and fifth group is comparison group was given aspirin suspense 1,3 mg/20 gram BB orally. After 15 minutes, all mice were treated by 1 ml asetic acid 0,1% intra peritoneal injection as pain induction. The writhing was count every 5 minutes until 15 minutes. Then the data were analized with SPSS 15,0 for windows. Result : The result of research revealed that mean of writhing quantity from control (-) group at 5, 10 and 15 minutes are 41,0; 38,6; 35,6. From P1 group are 36,8; 31,0; 26,0. From P2 group are 25,0; 21,6; 17,4. From P3 group are 15,6; 10,4; 5,8. From control (+) group are 13,0; 10,4; 6,8. The result of Friedman test give significant difference with p=0,007 (p<0,05) in 5, 10 and 15 minutes. The result of Kruskal Wallis test give significant difference with p=0,000 (p<0,05) in control (-), control (+) and treaten group. Conclusion : The result showed that revealing rhizome kencur (Kaempferia galanga Linn)’s extract can reduce the quantity of writhing mice which is induced by acetic acid 0,1% Key Words : Ekstract kencur, Kaempferia galanga Linn, Quantity of writhing.
