Abstract

Backgrounds : It has been estimated that will born 40.000 babies with congenital heart disease in Indonesia annually. The number of surgical procedures and nonsurgical interventions have increased every year, but the mortality rate is still high. Parents as a closest person for children, should have sufficient knowledge and advocating attitude to built good health behavior, that in turn, will support children with congenital heart disease. Objectives : To observe the correlation between parent’s knowledge and health behavior in children with congenital heart disease Methods : The subject of this cross-sectional study was parents of children with congenital heart disease who present to dr. Kariadi Hospital’s Polyclinics between March and June 2010. Respondents were asked to fill the valid questionnaires. The data were analyzed by Spearman correlation test using SPSS ver 15 for Windows with p value <0,05. Result : Of thirty respondents followed this study, 53% was 31-40 years-old. The level education of most respondents was elementary school (37%), while 83% mother work as housewife. Most respondents used health insurance (jamsostek and jamkesmas) as their health funding resources (93%). Most of the respondents’ knowledge was in mid level (86,7%) and 76,7% respondents have good attitudes. There was no significant correlation between parent’s knowledge and health behavior in children with congenital heart disease, r=0,216 Conclusion : Parent’s knowledge have no significant correlation with health behavior concerning children with congenital heart disease. There are other factors that influence the attitude, hence, further research is needed. Keyword: Knowledge, Behavior, Congenital Heart Disease
