Abstract

Background: Shallot (Allium ascalonicum) extract contain several component considered to lower cholesterol in blood, such as quercetin flavonoid. Literatures mention that compound is able to decrease triglyceride serum level by lipoprotein lipase enhancement activity. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of Shallot extract on triglyceride serum level in hyperlipidemic wistar rats. Methods: This experimental study utilized post test only control group designed. Twenty eight male wistar rats were randomized into four groups; K1, K2, P1 and P2. K1 only feed with standard diet BR-2 throughout the experiment without any treatment. K2, P1 and P2 group were given standard diet BR-2, adrenalin injection in 8th day and 5 gram egg yolk diet intermittently for four weeks. After four weeks, the K2 group were given standard diet BR-2 and 1 ml placebo without any treatment while the P1 and P2 group were given standard diet BR-2 and each 1 ml and 2 ml of shallot extract for three weeks. Triglyceride serum level was determined using enzymatic method. Data were analyzed using Saphiro-Wilk, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney test. Result: The average of triglyceride serum level in each groups; K1 (70), K2 (78), P1 (75), P2 (67). Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney test was not shown significant differentiation from each groups (p>0,05). Conclusion: The effect of Shallot extract on decreasing trigliceryde serum level in hyperlipidemic wistar rats is not be proved. Kata kunci: hyperlipidemic, triglyceride serum, shallot (Allium ascalonicum) extract
