Abstract

Background: Valerian is herbal that has sedative effect and being used for solving insomnia nowadays. Cd and Pb content in nephrotoxic Valerian which is excreted through the kidneys, so have the potential changes in the structure and function of the kidney. This study is aiming to know the effect of valerian kidney microscopic appearance and ureum level of wistar rat. Method:. Experimental study of microscopic kidney with Post Test Only Control Group Design, content of urea with Pre and Post Test Only Control Group Design. The samples were 20 wistar rat, divided randomly into 4 groups. The control group (K) were given only distilled. Treatment group (P1, P2, P3) Valerian extract given orally through a sonde with a dose of 9, 18 and 36 mg / kg mouse for 3 months. Ending months of the termination of three carried out to observe microscopic kidney. Microscopic and urea Post Test data were analyzed by Oneway ANOVA test for microscopic followed by Post-Hoc test data whereas urea levels Pre Test, Post Test and delta were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis. Result: The results obtained valerian extract microscopic image of a narrowing of the renal proximal tubule kontortus. Microscopic statistical test results obtained between the control kidney (K) and treatment (P1, P2, P3) with p <0.05, but between the P1-P2 (p> 0.05). Levels of statistical test results Pre test (p> 0.05), Post Test (p> 0.05) and delta ureum (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Valerian extract any significant effect on the microscopic picture of kidney rats and urea content of rats. Keyword: Valerian, kidney’s microscopic appearance, ureum.
