Abstract

Background: The high prevalance of colorectal cancer in the world followed by the high of mortality rate. Death due to recurrence of colorectal carcinoma. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is frequently proposed tumor markers for early detection of recurrence in patients with colorectal carcinoma (CRC). This study aimed to know the difference of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) levels before and after therapy in patients with colorectal carcinoma. Methods: This study was an observational analytic with retrospective approach of the sixteen samples of patients diagnosed CRC in the dr.Kariadi Hospital from 2007 to 2009. All samples of known results of CEA levels before and after therapy was performed Shapiro-Wilk test for normality of data and continued with Wilxocon nonparametric test to determine significant differences in CEA levels after therapy. Data analysis was performed using SPSS for windows 15.00. Results: Wilxocon test of CEA levels after therapy in patients CRC without metastasis was not statistically significant, but as many as six samples (60%) experienced a decline in CEA levels after therapy. Conclusion: Based on this study can be drawn the conclusion that there is no significantly decrease in CEA levels before and after therapy in patients with colorectal carcinoma at the dr.Kariadi Hospital from 2007-2009. Keywords: colorectal carcinoma, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA)
