Abstract
The main problems on beef cattle development in Indonesia, specially, Central Java is quality, quantity and continuity of roughage's production. One of the solution is improving the quality of highly lignocellulose waste product, mainly, rice straw and sugar cane top. The objebtive of the experiment was to determine the effect of rumen content fermentation on highly lignocellulose waste product by measuring its physical changes, total VFA concentration, and dry and organic matter digestibility (in vitro). A Completely Randomized Design with 2 x 3 x 3 factorial, 3 replications was used throughout the experiments. The first factor was highly lignocellulose waste product (L1=rice straw and L2=sugar cane top), the second factor was fermentation time (F1, F2, and F3 were 2, 4, and 6 weeks, respectively). Level of rumen contents was the third factor (Al, A2, and A3 were 5, 10, and 15% dry matter, respectively). The results showed that during 6 weeks of fermentation good performance of treated highly lignocellulose waste products were obtained i.e. : a light to dark brown color, no off odorous, no clumping, less than 5% fungi and a pH among 4 - 5,17. Statistical analysis revealed the significant effect of treatments, F and A (P<0.01), and also shown interaction effect LF, FA and LFA (P<0.01) on total VFA concentration. Dry matter digestibility (in vitro) was affected by treatment L (P<0.05), and F (P<0.01). Treatment J and F significantly effected organic matter digestibility (P<0.01), but there was no interaction. Treatment's F and A showed physical characteristics very similar to the natural highly lignocelllulose waste product, improved total VFA concentration and effected in vitro digestibility fermentation product of both rice straw and sugar cane top. It could be concluded that 10 - 15% DM rumen content and 4 week's fermentation could be used to improve the quality of highly lignocellulose waste product (rice straw and sugar cane top). Masalah utama dari segi pakan bagi pengembangan peternakan di Indonesia khususnya di Jawa Tengah adalah kualitas, kuantitas dan kontinyuitas penyediaan hijauan pakan. Salah satu alternatif adalah pemanfaatan limbah pertanian berlignoselulosa tinggi antara lain jerami padi dan pucuk tebu dengan cara meningkatkan kualitasnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji sifat phisik , kadar VFA Total dan kecernaan (in vitro) produk fermentasi limbah berlignoselulosa tinggi dengan isi rumen untuk menghasilkan pakan murah yang cukup berkualitas serta dapat mengurangi pencemaran. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap pola faktorial 2 x 3 x 3 , 3 ulangan. Faktor pertama jenis limbah berlignoselulosa tinggi (L) : Jerami padi dan pucuk tebu, faktor kedua lama fermentasi (F) : 2, 4 dan 6 minggu dan faktor ketiga aras isi rumen (A): 5, 10 dan 15% BK, Flash penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produk fermentasi mencirikan bau khas silase. Uji phisik ( warna, bau, tekstur dan jamur) produk fermentasi sampai lama fermentasi 6 minggu cukup balk. Skore rata-rata uji phisik secara keseluruhan menunjukkan bahwa skore jerami padi lebih tinggi daripada pucuk tabu. Analisis ragam pengaruh perlakuan terhadap kadar WA Total dipengaruhi oleh perlakuan lama fermentasi dan aras isi rumen (P<0,01), dan terdapat interaksi antara LF, FA dan LFA (P<0,01). Kadar WA Total tertinggi dicapai oleh perlakuan lama fermentasi 6 minggu dan aras isi rumen 15% balk pada jerami padi maupun pucuk tebu masing-masing sebesar 90,17 dan 87,32 mM. Kecernaan Bahan kering (KCBK) dipengaruhi oleh macam limbah (P<0,05) dan lama fermentasi (P<0,01), sedangkan Kecernaan Bahan Organik (KCBO) dipengaruhi macam limbah dan lama fermentasi (P<0,01) serta tidak terdapat interaksi antar perlakuan. Kecernaan tertinggi (KCBK dan KCBO) pada jerami padi dicapai pada lama fermentasi 6 minggu dan aras isi rumen 15% sedangkan pada pucuk tebu pada lama fermentasi 6 minggu dan aras isi rumen 5%. Lama fermentasi dan aras isi rumen memberikan basil secara phisik hampir sama dengan bahan aslinya, meningkatkan kadar VFA Total dan mempengaruhi kecernaan in vitro (KCBK dan KCBO) produk fermentasi balk jerami padi maupun pucuk tebu. Peningkatan kualitas limbah berlignoselulosa tinggi (jerami padi dan pucuk tebu) disarankan melalui fermentasi limbah tersebut dengan isi rumen 10 -15 %BK limbah dan lama fermentasi minimal 4 minggu.
