Abstract

Background: Vocal Exercise puts breathing technique as a basis. Rapid breathing movements in significant amounts, and release it slowly to the rhythm could train efficiency and respiratory control and make the airways more flexible. This study aimed to prove the differences in Peak Flows Expiratory of the group receiving 12 weeks of vocal exercises. Method: The study design is a Quasi Experimental Two Parallel Groups Pretest-posttest Design. Twenty people got vocal training at Diponegoro University Choir during the month of March until June as samples and twenty people who do not follow the vocal exercises as a control. All of the samples was measured their Peak Expiratory Flow twice, before and after the period of vocal training and then compared. The data described in the form of tables and figures, analized by Mann-Whitney test, unpaired t-test and Wilcoxon test with a computer program. Results: Data shows APE in sample group before training is 466,0 ± 77,01, and 508,0 ± 78,44 after training, but in control group shows APE on before training is 454,0 ± 90,63 and 466,0 ± 96,21 after training. An increase showed either in Expiration Peak Flow sample group and the control group after a 12-week measurement period. Mean of APE on vocal exercise group was 47.0 ± 31.30 mL / min while in the exercise group was 17.0 ± 22.96 vocal mL / min. Statistical analysis  APE on vocal exercise group was significantly higher than the showed group without vocal training (p <0.001). Conclusion: The group who get vocal training for 12 weeks experienced an increase higher than the group that did not get a vocal exercise. Keywords: Peak Ekspiratory Flow Rate, Vocal Exercise
