Abstract

Introduction : Hearing disorder was the most common sensory deficit which affected more than 250 million people in the world. Nowadays in Indonesia, hearing disorder and deafness were still being one big problem happened on community. The information absorbtion by hearing was 20%. That was better than reading which can absorb only 10%. Elementary students with hearing disorder showed difficulties to learn vocabulary, idiom and another aspect of verbal communication. The developmental of verbal or language effects intelligence. Objective : To analyze the correlation of hearing disorder with studying achievement. Methods : Research design was cross-sectional. Hearing disorder was measured by using audiometer. Studying achievement was judged by report value of “bahasa”,” mathematic”, and “IPA” in the last semester. Chi-square test was used to analyze the data with significant level at p<0,05. Result : There were 487 subject of 10 elementary school. Chi-square test showed significance correlation between hearing disorder and “bahasa’s score” (p=0,007) and “mathematic’s score” (p=0,025). Chi-square test showed no correlation between hearing disorder and “IPA’s score” (p=0,194). Conclusion : Hearing disorder has significant correlation with student’s studying achievement especially on verbal capability. Key words : Hearing disorder, Studying achievement, Audiometer
