Abstract

The efforts of seaweed cultivation in Indonesia have been recently developed due to increasing demand of world caraggeenan stock troughtout the year. However, Indonesian seaweed production has become more difficult to enter international market due to 1B low quality standar. One of important factor which has influence on the caraggeenan quantity and quality is its culture length. The aim of the research was to evaluate the effect of difference culture length on _quantity and quality of caraggeenan seaweed E. cottonit . This research was done on April - August 2001. The sample was taken from bluto Beach, Madura. Analysis of caraggeenan yield and test of caraggeenan quality were conducted at PUSPITEK laboratory Serpong, West Java. The experimental research was conducted with completely randomised design method_ The main treatment were group of seaweed that had been cultured on 3, 6, 9 and 12 week. To analysed of caraggeenan quantity and quality based on the method used by seaweed research team of BPP-Teknologi. The result of the research showed highly significant among treatments (p , 0,01). The quality of caraggeenan had got maximum at culture length 12 week with value yield caraggeenan 37,15 %, viscosity 42,63 cps, and 269,29 g/cm2 for gel strength. Based on However based on the Least Significant Diference (LSD resulted that treatment culture length 9 week was the best with value yield caraggeenan 37,02% The yielded of caraggeenan had 45,20 cps value of viscosity and 257,64 g/cm2 for gel strength. Rumput laut Euchetna sp. sedang dikembangkan di Indonesia, karena peningkatan perrnintaan dunia terjadi setiap tahunnya. Akan tetapi, produksi rumput but Indonesia makin sulit memasuki pasaran intemasional, dikarenakan mutu yang masili dibawah standar. Babb saw faktor yang mcnentukan mutu karagenan adalah lama kuhuriumurnya. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan April — Agustus 2001. Sampel E. auto& diambil dari di daerah budidaya rumput laut di Pantai Bluto, Madura. Analisis kandungan karagenan dan uji mutu kandungan karagenan dilaksanakan di Laboratori urn BPP¬Telcnologi di PUSPITEK, Serpong Banten.. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh lama kultur terhadap kuantitas dan kualitas karagenan rumput taut couoni. Metoda pcnclitian yang digunakan adalah meted° eksperimental. Dungan rancangan percobaan acak lengkap don perlakuan mama adalah lama kultur panen 3, 6, 9 dan 12 minggu. Pengujian mutu karagenan berd9sarkan metode yang digunakan oleh Tim Rumput Laut BPP-Teknologi. Basil penelitian menunjukkan perbedaan yang sangat nyata antar perlakuan (p<0,01) Mutu karagenan tertinggi dicapai pada lama kultur 12 minus] dengan nilai kandungan karagenan 37,15%, Viskositas 42,63 cps dan nilai kekuatan gel 269,29 g/cm2. Akan tetapi, berdasarkan uji Beda Nyata Terkecil (BNT) menunjukkan bahwa lama kultUr panen 9 minggu tidak berbeda nyata dengan 12 minggu (p > 0,05) , sehingga dilihat dari segi eonomisnya lama Ulan panen 9 minggu merupakan lama kultur panen yang paling balk dengan nilai karagenan 37,02%. Karagenan yang dihasilkan mempunyai nilai viskositas 45,20 cps dan nilai kekuatan gel 257,64 g/cm2.
