Abstract
Seacucumber is one of important natural marine resources. White seacucumber is now overexploited, therefore an attent to discover "second best commodity" has to be conducted otherwise the stock will be more depleted. The aims of the research is to determine the best substrate for growth and survival of black seacucumber (Holothuria atra). Experimental using completely randomized design has been applied. Black seacucumber larvae (average weight of 10 grams) has been taken from Bandengan Beach of Jepara. The treatment are substrate of sand, sand with organic of seagrass litter and mixture of rubble and sand with organic of seagrass litter, they were triplicated. The stocking density was 8 individuim2. They are reared in flow-through system having 200 % water change perday. The larvae wre reared for 3 months. Measurement of weight were conducted monthly to see their growth and survival rate. The organic ratter of substrate were measured as well as determination of plankton (fito dan zoo) dan benthos in the substrate The result of research showed that substrte have important role in larvae rearing of black seacucumber as suplly of natural food organisms as well as their habitat. The best substrate for growth and survival rate of black seacucumber was sand with organic of seagrass litter.
