Abstract

Background: lead is one of the heavy metals contained in motor vehicle exhaust fumes. Lead excreted through the kidney, whereas this lead can lead to negative effects due to its nature as a nephrotoxic. The objectives of this researach was to acknowledge the effects of the lead on kidney microscopic appearanceanda and lead content in the blood itself. Methods: the research study used the post test only group design. The sample was 24 male Balb/c and randomized into 4 groups. K is the control group, which is not exposed to the lead. P1, P2, P3 placed on the highway with a long exposure of 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours per day for 30 days. In 31th day mice were terminated to examine their microscopic appearancs anf and measure their blood lead level. Microscopic data and blood lead level data were analyzed using Oneway-Anova test followed by Post-Hoc test. Results: This study showed that the damage of proksimal convulated tubules in P1, P2, P3 group were significantly different compared with the control group (p<0,05). But it was not shown that the increasing of blood lead level were significantly higher than the control (p>0,05). Conclusion: Lead exposure with duration of exposure for 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours have caused changes in the microscopic appearance of kidney and increasing in blood lead level. There are significantly differences in canges on renal tubular of threaten group according to the increasing of blood lead level. Keywords: lead (Pb), kidney microscopic appeareance, blood lead level, proximal convulated tubules.
