Abstract

Background : Vitamin B1, B6,and B12 are substances contained in almost all beverage supplements nowadays to be drunk before exercise to improve performance dan reduce muscle fatigue. Vitamin B1 is beneficial to overcome fatigue in execise because it can improve carbohydrate metabolism which produces energy and reduce lactic acid accumulation in fatigue muscle. Vitamin B6 plays important role in preventing muscle fatigue through protein metabolism. Vitamin B6 coenzime is needed to release glucose from heart and muscle glikogen to provide energy when exercising. Vitamin B12 helps red blood cell formation which is used to deliver oxygen to muscles so that it helps to prevent muscle hypoxia. The combination of vitamin B1, B6, B12 in high dose (60-200 times the RDA) can also improve serotonin formation, which is involved in relaxation so that it can improve fitness and prevent fatigue due to lack of energy and lactic acid accumulation. The purpose of this study is to know the affect of the combination of vitamin B1,B6,B12 in muscle fatigue, which will be given per oral and consumed 8 hours before exercise with anaerob parameter (AF)and aerob parameter(VO2 max). Methods : This was experimental study with post test only controlled group design. The subjects of this study were 48 male students of medical faculty Diponegoro university (19-21 years old range )that fulfilled the exclution and inclution criterias. The subjects were divided into 2 groups, control (without treatment) and treatment group. Treatment group was given a vitamin B1, B6 and B12 combination tablet which consists of 100 mg B1, 200 mg B6 and 200 mcg B12, 8 hours before the test. Anaerobic phase of muscle fatigue was measured with Wingate test, aerobic phase was measured with Ergocycle test. Results: Measurement with Wingate test, proportion of fatigue(in %) based on AF value on treatment group was smaller than the control group. Chi square test result in p=0,035, so that it can be concluded as significant. Measurement with ergocycle test result in VO2max mean difference between treatment and control group, where the mean of control group was smaller than the treatment group. T-independent test result in p=0,016, so it can be concluded that the difference was significant. Conclusion : Administration combination tablet of vitamin B1, B6, dan B12 ,8 hours before exercise affect the anaerobic phase of muscle fatigue which showed in AF and aerobic phase of muscle fatigue which showed in VO2 max.
