Abstract
Background:Rhizomes of Curcuma domestica that used as a traditional drug in the treatment of dandruff. Ketoconazole 2% is an antifungal synthetic azole drug which has a broad spectrum dan a high effectivity to inhibit ergosterol synthesize that is important to keep the integrity of the fungal membrane. Dandruff is a superficial fungal infection with itchy scaling scalp as a common symptom. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of Curcuma extract versus 2% ketokonazole in vitro to the growth of Malassezia sp. in dandruff. Method: This research was done by using an experimental study.The difference of growth proportion was analyzed by fischerTest with the degree of significance of p<0,05. Result: 30 media of olive oil SDA which contained Curcuma extract, 27 medias(45.0%) were found (+)/ positive for Malassezia sp. growth and 3 media (5,0%) were found (-)/ absence for Malassezia sp. growth. Meanwhile, 30 media which contained 2% ketokonazole, 2 medias (3,3%) were found positive and 28 medias (46,7%) were found negatives. The result of fischer test is not significant p=1,00 (p>0,05). Conclusion: 25% Curcuma extract has same effective in compared with ketoconazole 2% in retarding the growth of Malassezia sp. in dandruff.
