Abstract
Background : Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is a herbal medicine used as anti hypertensive, anticancer, diuretic, kidney stone crusher, anticolesterol, antibacterial, etc. Rosella will be excreted by kidney while the using of herbal medicine for long time mainly herb which have diuretic effect can cause destruction of kidney. The purpose of this study is to prove if there is any changes of histological features of wistar rats after giving of rosella in various doses for 30 days. Methods : This was experimental study with Post Test Only Group Design. The samples were 20 wistar rats, randomized into 4 group. The control groups was only given standard diet, while groups P1, P2, and P3 were given rosella in respectively doses 40, 60 and 90 mg/day by oral in 30 days. The target was the summary of the proximal tubules’s space which closed. Result : The averages of total number of the proximal tubule’s space which closed on K, P1, P2, P3 were 6,6 ;21,2 ; 28,4 ; 36,8. Analysis with Anova showed the significant differences (p=0,000). Multiple comparison result (Post Hoc )between groups showed the significant differences (p ≤ 0,05) in all groups, K - P1; K – P2 ; K – P3 ; P1 – P3 ( p = 0.000) , P1 - P2 (p = 0,027) , P2 – P3 (p = 0,012). Conclusion : There were significant differences on the histological features of kidneys’s wistar rats, between groups which was given rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa) with the groups which was not, in accordance with the increasing doses. Keywords : Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa), The histologic features of kidneys’s wistar rats
