Abstract

Background: Methanol is the simplest form of alcohol similar to ethanol. Methanol is often misused as a liquor by the community. Methanol causes damage to various organs both systemically and locally, including the stomach. This study aims to determine the effect of methanol 50% per orally with a dose-rise to the level of gastric damage wistar rats. Methods: The experimental research design with Controlled Group Post Test Only Design. Samples of 20 wistar rats were divided into one control group and three treatment groups. Giving methanol done orally through sonde on every day for 10 days. K was given distilled water. P1 was given 2ml/weightkg doses of methanol. P2 was given 4ml/ weightkg. While P3 was given 6ml/kgBB. On 10th day made termination, gastric taken, and made a lot of histopathology preparations. Result: A study of gastric histopathology was analyzed using Kruskal-Walis test showed p=0.002. Followed by Mann-Whitney test results show that there are significant differences between the K-P2 (p=0.008), K-P3 (p=0.008), P1-P2 (p=0.034), and P1-P3 (p= 0.008). Conclusion: Giving methanol 50% with step dose in the treated group show pathological changes according to dose levels given. Third treatment group showed pathological changes of the worst. The higher dose is given, the higher the level of gastric mucosal epithelial damage. Keywords: methanol, gaster, wistar rats
