Abstract

Background: Postmortem interval can be estimated through changes on dead bodies, including postmortem changes in the nucleus. Postmortem changes which is based for duration postmortem determination is very limited. The objectives of this study are to find out the correlation between postmortem interval with postmortem histopathological feature of the heart muscle. Methods: This was an experimental study using consecutive sampling on 25 Wistar rats. Samples were divided into five groups, each contained five rats, first group was examined zero hour postmortem, second to fifth group were examined 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours postmortem, consecutively. After seven days adaptation, on the following day, decapitated. Heart muscle histopathological feature, measured by counting amount of necroses heart muscle nuclei. Data analysis described in table and picture, treated with Pearson or Spearman test and logistic analysis with SPSS 16.0 for windows program. Result: This research obtained no necroses heart muscle nuclei at all group’s samples. Conclusion: There is no correlation between duration postmortem with histopathological damage in Wistar rat’s heart muscle. Keywords: duration postmortem, histopathological heart muscle damage
