Abstract
The aims of this research were to study the genetic relationships, effective population size and the rate of inbreeding per generation of sheep populations in Kisar Island by morphometric approach. A total of 231 sheep was used in this study. The sheep were collected from the areas within the Kisar Island i.e. Purpura (77 heads), Nowuru (59 heads) and Oirata (95 heads) subpopulation. The variables observed were body weight and body measurements, real population size, effective population size, and the rate of inbreeding per generation. The data were analyzed using canonical discriminant function and phylogeny analysis with UPGMA method. The result of genetic relationships analysis indicated that the formation of subpopulation of sheep in Kisar Island has not been formed. The other result obtained that the effective population size of sheep in Kisar Island were 362 heads, with the rate of inbreeding per generation were 0.13 percents. Keywords : Kisar sheep, genetic relationships, effective population size, rate of inbreeding
