Abstract
Nilai faktor kondisi (1(n) masing — masing jenis kelamin untuk ikan Sebelah jantan Kn = 1,0054 sedangkan untuk ikan Sebelah (Psettodes Indian Halibut (Psettodes erumei) has attractive clean white flesh and delicious taste. Although it has yet not significantly contributed to the Indonesia's economy, it is thought to be an important commodity in marine and fisheries sector. To support the development of marine capture and culture of this species, adequate knowledge of its biology is required. This study was aimed at understanding the biometric characters, including length-weight relationships and ponderal indices of this species The study was carried out in October — December 2002 at landing place of Jobokuto, Jepara. Descriptive approach was applied, where fish samples were collected at random. A total of 123 sample, consisting of 26 male and 97 female was obtained. Result of the study indicates that length-weight relationships were: W = 0,00002721 L2'8812 , r = 0,91 for male, and W = 0,00000587 L3'1427 , r = 0,97 for female. Increase in length correlates very strongly with weight gain (p > 0.001), for both male and female Indian Halibut. Based on the vales of b obtained the growth of male fish was "negative allometrics", which means that increase in length 'exceeds the rate of weight gain. On the contrary, female fish shows "positive allometric" growth, meaning that increase in weight exceeds the rate of size (length) gain. The ponderal indices (Kn) were found to be 1,0054 for male, and 0,9860 for female. The difference in Kn value is probably due to different the rate of growth in length, which is likely to be higher in male than in female.
