Abstract

Background : Decrease of platelet count and increasing blood viscosity usually used to indicate the pattern of the disease specially shock, bul not all of the hospital in small area had the instruments to check haematocryte value. Objective: To know if platelet count can use to estimate haematocryte value and to know if there are a correlation between thrombocytopenia and haemoconcentration with shock. Method : This study was retrospective analytic abservational study using medical records data. Samples of this study are adult Dengue Haemorhagic Fever patients in Dr Kariadi hospital Semarang period 1 july 2001 until 30 june 2006. The intake of data was according to Criteria of WHO 1997. Data that taken was platelets value, haematocryte and occurence of syok. Data was collected, edited, coded, and entered. Data analised by descriptive analysis and hypothesis test, that used Pearson correlation, Mann-Whitney test, and Chi-square test. Data processed by using program of computer SPSS 15 For Windows. Result of : 384 adult Dengue Haemorhagic Fever patients were included in this study. Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between platelet mean in shock group and non shock group(p=0.001). Chi-square test that tested platelet count as shock predictor showed a significant result(p=0.00, CI=1.8-10.6). Mann-Whitney test that tested haematocryte mean in shock group and non shock group did not showed a significant result(p=0.433). Chi-square test that tested haematocryte value as shock predictor did not showed a significant result(p=0.466, CI=0.23-1.79). Conclusion : : There was a significant correlation between thrombocytopenia and shock. There wasn’t a significant correlation between haemoconcentration and shock. Keywords: Dengue Haemorhagic Fever, thrombocytopenia, haemoconcentration, shock
