Abstract
Background : Concept ” Back to Nature ” that recently return luster, making society start to look for traditional medicine alternative. One of the traditional medicines is lempuyang gajah, which has estimated activity of antibacterial to E. coli, because lempuyang gajah is including family of Zingiberaceae knew to have activity of antibacterial. Target : To know chemical compound component implied in extract of ginger lempuyang lajah, and to prove the existence of antibacterial activity extract of ethanol lempuyang gajah which is expressed in KHM and of KBM. Method : There are 2 Method Research, that is descriptive research and research of experimental with test only control group design. In descriptive research, extract of be chromatogram stratum tissue, and then perceived by existing pock. While at research of experimental, each attempt group given by extract with different concentration. Then enhanced by bacterium suspense and brooded, then inscribed at solid media. Liquid at media of Mueller-Hinton used liquid to determine Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), and growth of E. coli at solid media of Mc Conkey used to determine Minimum Bactericidal Concentration ( MBC ). Result : From result of analysis using chromatogram profile was found 5 spot. While from result of antibacterial activity test proven there antibacterial activity to E. coli , and be found of MIC at level 12,5% and MBC at level 50%. Conclusion : Lempuyang gajah have 5 compound components, and effective significance in inhibiting E. coli with level 12,5%, and kill E. coli with level 50%. Keyword : Zingiber zerumbet Sm, Escherichia coli, antibacterial activity, Minimum Inhibitory Concentration ( MIC) , Minimum Bactericidal Concentration ( MBC).
