Abstract
Background: The ability of respiratory system will be lowered during aging. The peak expiratory flow will be lowered too. Women’s peak expiratory flow not as well as men’s. Optimum respiratory system ability needed to transfer O2 adequatly to body cell’s and CO2 out from body cell’s. Recently, Hatha Yoga is a popular exercise and said that it can improve respiratory system include peak expiratory flow. The aim of this study is to know whether Hatha Yoga exercise for 12 weeks can increase peak expiratory flow. Method: This was a quasi experimental study with One Group Pre and Post Test Design. Samples were taken by purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data is received from toe-touch test results in the early study, 4th,8th, and 12th week. The difference of toe-touch results in the early study, 4th, 8th, and 12th week were analyzed by parametric Reapeated Measure Anova test. The difference is significant if p<0,001. Results: From 37 samples who exercise Hatha Yoga for 12 weeks, the parametric Reapeated Measure Anova test shows significant differentiation for peak expiratory flow (p<0,001). Conclusion: Hatha Yoga exercise for 12 weeks increase peak expiratory flow. Keyword: Hatha Yoga exercise, peak expiratory flow.
