Abstract
Background: Static flexibility, commonly known as flexibility, will be lowered during aging. Women’s flexibility is better than men but it seems to disappear sooner. Mean while, flexibility is required to do daily activities and to prevent muscle injury. Exercise can help to return flexibility. Recently, Hatha Yoga is a popular exercise and said that it can improve musculoskeletal system, including flexibility. The aim of this study is to know whether Hatha Yoga modified exercise for 12 weeks can increase static flexibility. Method: This was a quasi experimental study with One Group Pre and Post Test Design. Samples were taken by purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data is received from toe-touch test results in the early study, 4th, 8th, and 12th week. The difference of toe-touch results in the early study, 4th, 8th, and 12th week were analyzed by Friedman test then continued by Wilcoxon test. The difference is significant if p<0,05. Results: From 37 samples who exercise Hatha Yoga modified for 12 weeks ,toe-touch results in the end (-10,6 ± 8,21 cm) are much higher than in the early study (-12,5 ± 8,78 cm). Wilcoxon test shows a significant differentiation for static flexibility (p<0,05). Conclusion: Hatha Yoga modified exercise for 12 weeks increases static flexibility. Keywords: Hatha Yoga modified exercise, Static flexibility.
