Abstract

Background : Mengkudu or Morinda citrifolia is a traditional medicine which is used widely by Indonesian comunity. Mengkudu fruit and leaf are used by comunity as anthelmintic medicinal herbs. This research was done to prove the anthelmintic potency of fresh mengkudu fruit squezze and mengkudu leaf infuse by comparing its potency to piperazine citrate solution as positive control and NaCl 0,9% as negative control. Anthelmintic potency of fresh mengkudu fruit squezze was also compared to that of mengkudu leaf infuse . Methods : This research was an experimental research with post test only control group design. The sample were 312 Ascaridia galli worms, which was divided into 4 groups. The first group was treated by squezze of fresh mengkudu fruit in the concentration of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The second group was treated by infusing mengkudu leaf with 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% concentrations. The third group was treated by piperazine citrate solution in 0,2%, 0,3%, 0,4%, and 0,5%. The fourth group was treated by NaCl 0,9%. The volume of fruit squezze or leaf infuse administered was 25 ml for each petri dish containing 8 worms. Each group was replicated three times and incubated at 370C. Data were collected through the observation of total mortality time of Ascaridia galli worm in every 15 minutes. LC100 and LT100 were counted by probit analysis. To determine the most effective anthelmintic potency among the groups, data were analysed by Kaplan-Meier. Result : Probit analysis showed that LC100 and LT100 of fresh mengkudu fruit squezze were 78,580% and 218,510 minutes. LC100 and LT100 mengkudu leaf infuse were 42,344% and 966,515 minutes. One minus survival graphic showed that mengkudu fruit squezze in the concentration of 100% was the most effective anthelmintic potency compared to other treatment groups.While mengkudu leaf infuse did not appear in one minus survival graphic. Conclusion : Fresh mengkudu fruit squezze have in vitro anthelmintic potency toward Ascaridia galli worm with LT100 and LC100 in 78,580% and 218,510 minutes. Mengkudu leaf infuse have in vitro anthelmintic potency toward Ascaridia galli worm with LT100 and LC100 in 42,344% and 966,515 minutes. Fresh mengkudu fruit squezze in the concentration of 100% was the most effective anthelmintic potency.
