Abstract

Background : Papaya (Carica papaya) is a traditional medicine which has been used widely in public. Root, leaf, fruit latex and seed have many advantages for health, such as anthelmintic. This anthelmintik activity of papaya due to papain enzyme which is characterized as proteolytic enzyme. The purpose of this research is to prove anthelmintic potency of papaya’s root, seed and leaf infusion toward Ascaridia galli worm by comparing those potencies to control and also comparing anthelmintic potency among root, seed and leaf infusion itself. Method : This research was an experimental research with post test only controlled group design. The samples were 408 Ascaridia galli worms, divided into 5 groups. The first group was treated by papaya root infusion in 5%, 10% 15%, 25% concentrations. The second group was treated by papaya seed infusion in 5%, 10% 15%, 20% concentrations. The third group was treated by papaya leaf infusion in 5%, 10% 15%, 20% concentrations. The forth was treated by piperazin sitrat solution as positive control with 0,2% 0,3%, 0,4% and 0,5% concentrations. And the fifth group was treated by NaCl 0,9% solution as negative control. Each concentration was put in petri disk which consisted of 8 worms and 25 ml solution. Each concentration was replicated for three times. The differences test among concentration was done by Kaplan-Meier test. Data were collected by observation of total mortality time of Ascaridia galli worm every 1 hour then LC100 and LT100 were calculated by probit analysis. Data were analyzed using SPSS 15,0 for Windows with significancy level at p<0,05. Result : Kaplan-Meier test showed that papaya root, seed and leaf infusion had anthelmintic potency lower than piperazin sitrat. Among treatment group, leaf infusion had the best anthelmintic potency. It was showed by probit analysis which had the lowest LC100 in 24,964% with LT100 in 17,726 hour. So, in low concentration had an effect to kill Ascaridia galli worm. Conclusion : Effectiveness anthelmintic potency of papaya (Carica papaya) root, seed and leaf infusion are lower than piperazin sitrat. If we compared among three part of papaya’s tree, probit analysis showed that leaf infusion had the best result. This condition is showed by the lowest LC100 in 18,384 % with LT100 in 18,866 hours. Key words : Anthelmintic, Ascaridia galli , Carica papaya
