PENGARUH PEMBERIAN EKSTRAK KEDELAI DOSIS BERTINGKAT TERHADAP JUMLAH SPERMATOZOA MENCIT JANTAN STRAIN BALB/C

Abstract

Background : The effect of soybean on male fertility still became controversy. Soybean contains of phytoestrogens, a substance with estrogenic effect that disturb hormonal system balance. Testosterone and androstenedione were decreased significantly on animals that have rich of phytoestrogens in their diets. But, as a good source of protein, soybean is rich of arginin. This amine acid was known can increase sperm count. Objective : To prove whether soybean extract could influence sperm count of Balb/c male mice. Methods : This research subjects were 36 Balb/c male mice, divided randomly into four groups (K,A,B,C). K group was not given soybean extract. A was given soybean extract 260 mg/day, B was given soybean extract 520 mg/day, and C was given soybean extract 780 mg/day for 21 days. All mice were terminated on 22nd days, then the sperm count was done. Result : Kruskal-wallis test showed significant differences of sperm count between groups (p<0,05). Based on Mann-Whitney test, there were significant differences of sperm count between group A with B, A with C, and C with K. But there were no significant differences of sperm count between group A with K, B with K, and B with C. Conclusion : Soybean extract supplementation can increase sperm count of Balb/c male mice.
