Abstract
Background : Chloramphenicol have a side effect to hematopoetic system that is a toxic reaction with manifestation is depression of bone marrow. The major bioactive potential substance of green tae is polyphenol. Most of polyphenols is catechin. Catechin was reported could stimulate the proliferation of HPC (Hematopoietic Pregenitor Cells) in depressed bone marrow of a mouse. )The objective of this study is to know the effect of green tea administration to the thrombocyte count on Wistar mouse which had been given chloramfenicol. Method : This study was an experimental study with post test only control group design. The samples were 30 wistar mouse with specific criterias, divide randomly into 3 groups. They were control group (only standard food) , the test group 1 ( each mouse treated with chloramphenicol 2500 mg/kg weigth per oral at 6th day until 10th day ), the test group 2 (each mouse treated with green tea 165 mg/day twice a day per oral at 1st day until day 10th and chloramphenicol 2500 mg/kg weight per oral at 6th day until 10th day). At 11th day, blood samples were taken from abdominal venous. The number of thrombocyte were counted by autoanalyzer. The data analysis is carried out by SPSS 13.00 for windows. The significant level is accepted if p < 0,05. Result : The administration of 2500 mg chloramphenicol/ kg weight per oral for the last 5 days could not cause significant decrease from the thrombocyte count on wistar mouse that show unsignificant result (p>0,05). The administration of 165 mg green tea /day twice a day per oral for 10 days could not cause significant different from the trombosit count on wistar mouse. Conclusion : The administration of green tea could not cause significant different from the thrombocyte count on wistar mouse which had been given chloramphenicol. Keywords : Green tea, thrombocyte, chloramphenicol.
