Abstract
Background: The most important benefit of green tea is from its polifenol substance. Catechin is an active substance from polifenol. Catechin could increase Granulocyte Macrophage-Colony Stimulating Factor (GM-CSF) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) which could stimulate the proliferation of Hematopoetic Stem Cell (HSC), therefore reticulocyte and erythrocyte count increase. The aim of this study was to describe the effect of green tea on eruthrocyte and reticulocyte count in Wistar rats which had been given cloramphenicol. Methods: This study was an experimental research with Post Test Only Control Group Design. A total of Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups. Consist of: K(-) group was given aquadest on 6th until 10 th day, K(+) group was given chloramphenicol 2500mg/kg on the 6th until 10 th day and P group was given green tea 165 mg twice a day on yhe 1st day until 10th day and chloramphenicol on the 6th until 10 th day. On the 11th day the blood samples were taken from abdominal venous and then erythrocyte and retikulocyte count were calculated. Results: On P group erythrocyte and retikulocyte count showed no significant different compare to K(+) group (p>0.05). Conclusion: Green tea did not have influence erythrocyte and retikulocyte count on Wistar rats which had been given chloramphenicol. Key Words: polifenol, erythrocyte count, reticulocyte count, chloramphenicol
