Abstract

Background : The main key of tea benefits is on its bioactive component, polyphenol, that dominantly contained of catechins. Viral agent and drugs has effected bone marrow and chloramphenicol is the example. Catechins could repair hematopoietic system of marrow depressed mice. Objective : To know the effect of green tea on leukocyte count and differential count in Wistar rats which had been given chloramphenicol. Methods: This study was a Post Test Only Control Group Design. The experimental was done for 10 days to the 30 Wistar rats, which are divided into 3 groups, negative control given aquadest, positive control given chloramphenicol, and therapy given green tea and chloramphenicol. On day 11, blood samples were taken from abdominal vein. Leukocyte count and differential count were counted by autoanalyzer. The data were analyzed by using Shapiro-wilk, Kruskal-wallis, and Mann-whitney test. Results : Kruskal-wallis test proven that there were no significant differences on leukocyte count. Granulocyte count were also not show significant differences with Kruskal-wallis test. On lymphocyte count there were significant differences on Kruskal-wallis test and with Mann-whitney test there were significant differences between negative control and positive control group, but none with the other. On monocyte count there were no significant differences between the groups. Conclusion : Green tea is not affects leukocyte count and differential count in Wistar rats which had been given chloramphenicol. Key words : Green tea, leukocyte.
