Abstract
Background : Body Mass Index was found as one of many parameters which have been used to determine body proportion. Nowdays, most people with overweight tent to effect on limitation of space, generally and lumbal flexibility exclusively. Objective : This research was purpose to find out the value of the correlation between Body Mass Index and lumbal flexibility. Methods : This was observasional research with cross sectional approach. Seventy consecutive undergraduate students were reviewed. Anthropometer rod was used in the measurement of body weight and stature. MST (Modified Schober Test) and the distance test was used for measure lumbal flexibility, and then scale was used for girths measurement. Data were processed by SPSS 15.0 for Windows. Results : The Spearman test resulted that there was correlation between Body Mass Index and MST (p=0,012;r=-0,298) higher than correlation between Body Mass Index and the distance test (p=0,035;r=-0,252). Conclusion : There was significant correlation between Body Mass Index and lumbal flexibility. The value of Modified Schober Test had higher correlation than the distance test compare with Body Mass Index. Eventough the both of them devined as weak correlation. Key Words : Body Mass Index, lumbal flexibility, Modified Schober Test, the distance test, girths measurement.
