HUBUNGAN AKTIVITAS FISIK DENGAN KOMPOSISI TUBUH PADA REMAJA

Abstract

Background : : Obesity is an accumulated adiposity which impair the health status. Obesity is caused by lack of physical activity and over energy intake. Considering its negative effects, obesity needs early prevention. The prevention should have been started since adulthood and adolescence period by monitoring their physical activities. The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between physical activity and body composition. Methods : An analitic descriptive study with a crossectional design was conducted in SMP Domenico Savio semarang in November 2006 – January 2007. The subjects consisted of 1147 students who were present when the sudy held. The data collected included : sex, age, weight, height, BMI, waist circumference body fat and physical activity questionare. The data was analyzed by Chi square test. Results : There was a significant association of physical activity with body fat (p<0.05, OR=2.3; 95% CI =1 - 5.3) and waist cicumference (p<0.01, OR=2.5; 95% CI =1.5- 4). There was no significant association between physical activity and BMI (p>0.05, OR = 1.5; 95% CI =1 - 2.1) Conclusions : There was a significantly association between physical activity with body fat and waist circumference. An inactive adolescent had 2,3 times greater risk for gaining more fat and 2,5 times greater risk for gaining more waist circumference than active adolescent.
