Abstract

Background: Amorphophallus onchophyllus is one of the plants which contains high fiber. Some researches proved that high fiber diet can reduce incidence of colon cancer. 1,2 Dimethylhydrazine (DMH), high lipid and protein diet in Wistar rats was assumed influence their immunity system, causing injury on their spleen. This study had purpose to examining spleen’s histopathological pattern in Wistar with carcinogenesis colon induction and carcinogenesis colon induction plus Amorphophallus onchophyllus dietary. Method: This laboratory observational study used 15 Wistars divided into 3 groups, group I ( normal ), group II ( induction ) and group III ( test ) with 5 rats in each group. At the beginning of 9th week, all of Wistars were terminated and histopathological sample of the spleens were made for furthermore examination. Data in the form of spleen’s histopathological patterns were analyzed with descriptive and presented in table and graphic. Result: In group I mean of spleen’s volume is 0,38ml;weight 0,33gr;diameter Centrum germinativum 16μm, follicle 31,6μm and marginalize zone:1,4μm; in group II mean of spleen’s volume is 0,63ml;weight 0,76gr; diameter Centrum germinativum 12,38μm, follicle 27,88μm and marginalize zone 4,38μm; in group III mean of spleen’s volume is 0,55ml;weight 0,50gr; Centrum germinativum 14,5 μm, follicle 30,83μm and marginalize zone1,67μm. Conclusion: Macroscopic and histopathological pattern of spleen had descriptive in normal, induction and test group.
