Abstract

Background : Obesity is a chronic condition characterised by an excess of body fat. Obesity occured in adolescence need to more attention because if it is continuous to adult, it will be difficult to exceeded. Besides, obesity in adolescence also take a problem for social life and emotional that enough important in adolescent. Food habit in adolescent is significantly influenced by their change of life style, included in life style to consume fast food. Objective : This research is aimed to know whether consumption of fast food is a risk factor obesity in adolescent. Subject and Method : This research was a analytic observational research by case control approach. Sampels consist of 69 students high school with obesity as case and others 69 students high school with no obesity as control. It was called obesity if BMI score higher than 25. Controls were friends of cases that were age-and sex-matched with cases. Food frequency questionnaires were used to collect information on students consumption during the last 1 month, and others information were collected by questionnaires. The data analysis by SPSS 13 for windows program with chi square test, and done calculation OR ( Odds Ratio ) to know relation and how much risk factor. Result : The research showed that the students with energy from fast food higher than 6%, 4.2 times more possible become fat (OR=4,2, with 95% CI=1,399-12,665) than students with energy from fast food lower than 6%. Conclusion : The higher contribution of fast food to total energy the higher risk of obesity. Key words : obesity, consumption, fast food, student high school.
