KEMAMPUAN WANITA PENGUSAHA UKIR BERSTATUS ISTRI PENGUSAHA ASING DALAM BERBAHASA INGGRIS DI JEPARA

Abstract

The research entitled the ability of speaking English of the carved furniture business women in Jepara who are the wives of foreigners has the purpose to get the idea of how far they can use English pasively or actively. Apart from that this research also wants to show whether the existence of' foreigners as the spouses of the business women supports their ability to use English for trade transactions. Data is gathered in two ways, they are questionnaire and interview. The procedures of fulfilling the questionnaire are half interview and respondent filling the questionnaire. Meanwhile interview is also done to other sources to complete the questionnaire. The results of the research show that the age of the carved furniture business women in Jepara whose status is as wives of foreigners is between 20-30 years, their education is from junior high school to university and they have become the wives of foreigners for 2¬10 years. They have tried to improve their English by following courses. The role of the foreigners as their husbands is also great to support their English mastery. However, their dependency to the foreign spouses is still very obvious. Penelitian ini berjudul Kemampuan Wanita Pengusaha Ukir Berstatus Istri Pengusaha Asing dalam Berbahasa Inggris di Jepara, bertujuan memperoleh gambaran kemampuan berbahasa Inggris secara pasif dalam memahami dan kemampuan aktif dalam tulisan wanita berstatus istri pengusaha ukir di Jepara. Disamping itu juga, berupaya menggambarkan keterlibatan suami mereka dalam mengembangkan kemampuan dalam berbahasa Inggris. Data dikumpulkan melalui dua cara, yaitu (a) kuesioner, dan (b) wawancara. Dalam pelaksanaan pengisian kuesioner dilakukan secara (a) setengah wawancara, dan (b) diisi oleh responden. Sedangkan wawancara dilakukan terhadap beberapa responden dan informan lainnya. Hasil Bari wawancara digunakan untuk melegkapi keterangan¬keterangan Bari kuesioner. Wanita pengusaha berstatus istri pengusaha asing di Jepara berusia antara 20-30 tahun, berpendidikan antara SMTP sampai. PT, telah mendampingi berkisar antara 2-10 tahun. Mereka telah mempunyai kesadaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris dengan cara mengikuti kursus. Peran suami juga dirasakan sebagai pendorong dalam menigkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris, dan rasa tergantung kepada pasangannya inasih sangat besar.
