Abstract
THE PERCEPTION OF INTELLECTUALS TOWARD THE GENERAL ELECTION SYSTEM IN INDONESIA (Case Study Among Lecturers at Some Colleges in Semarang Municipality) The main purpose of this research is to describe the perception of intellectuals toward the general election system in Indonesia. To reach the destination, a research was conducted in five colleges, that is Diponegoro University, Catholic University of Soegijapranata, Islamic University of Sultan Agung, The State Institute of Education, and University of 17 Agustus 1945. The research which used analytic-description method took seventy five respondents from five colleges which were researched. Tabulation analysis of the research shows that three component of perception; that is the knowledge toward the general election system, the judgement toward the practice of the general election, and the opinion of the best general election system; in fact incredibly high. Most of respondents tend to choose the combi¬nation between the district system and the propor¬tional system because of several advantages in each system.
