Abstract
Gender bias was found in research on stories to children. This result had potential impact to achieve egalitarian society in the future. The system would not be able to achieve if women's oppression in our society still emerge. One of the oppressions was assumed on Indonesia folk stories. This research aimed lo describe women's violence in Indonesia folk stories. Besides, it also aimed to determine some ideologies that include in the folks. A qualitative approach was used to answer the aims, especially discourse analysis. The narrative analysis was the method that is used to study Elex Media Komputindo's folks. The folks were being chosen purposively. The results showed that in all the folks be founded grammatical narratives, such as starting and closing the stories, local and temporal aspects, and narrative and locutive conversation. Besides, the folks that were told comically, mystically, tragically, and fantastically employed chronological plot. Conflicts that appeared were conflict between person against self, person against person, person against society, and person against nature. The protagonists and antagonists in the folks were female and male. All the folks were storied educatively. Omniscient point of view was used to tell the folks. Semantically, the folks represented reality that showed male's values to govern the society. These values reflected male's interests to run the society and played down female's interests. The patriachism was ideology that dominant in all the folks. There were much violence that occurred to the female mirrored the ideology. Personally and structurally was the violence that happened to the female. Sexual harassment, beating, killing, kidnapping, charming were the examples of the personal violence. Limiting social roles, such as to be a wife, a widow, a domestic worker and stereotyping females natures, such as beautiful, emotional, patientful, and materialful were the structural violence. Pragmatically, female's characters in the folks were used to authors to fight some moral values on general. However, the values did not represented female's interest. In reader's perspective, the female characters could be interpreted as a repressive symbol from society to its certain members. Finally, based on the result could be suggested that the egalitarian society would not be achieved if there were many folks that still contained the values that played down female's interests. Revaluation to the folks was an ideological way to surface female's interest.
