Abstract

Background: Qualitative or quantitative thrombocyte disorder will cause bleeding and/or thrombosis. Therefore the functional assessment of thrombocyte is important beside the quantitative assay. Aggregation is one of the important thrombocyte functions and it is often being tested. The assessment for the thrombocyte aggregation is using the blood sample and also adrenalin 1mg/ml (adrenalin 3M) as the inductor. Metabolic activities of the thrombocyte are kept during the storage. Objectives: To know the difference of the thrombocyte aggregation score between the immediate blood sample assay and the stored blood sample for one, three and five days. Method and Subject: This is a quasi-experimental research with “time series design”. Thirty subjects were obtained from clinical pathology laboratory in dr. Kariadi hospital. Inclusion criteria in this research were normal subjects. The exclusion criteria were hemolytic blood. The assay was repeated by two different persons, and then the immediate examination was compared to the storage blood sample. Results: There were significant correlation between the first and the second assay (p=0,000). Inductor was giving a significant difference (p=0,000) for the thrombocyte aggregation score. Inductor was used for accelerate the thrombocyte aggregation. The thrombocyte aggregation score was decreased significantly (p<0,05) in storage blood sample. The function of thrombocyte itself was damaged because of the storage. Interestingly there were no significant difference (p>0,05) between the third day and the fifth day of storage. Conclusion: There was significant decrease between the immediate assay of blood sample and the blood sample which was stored for first, third and fifth day. Keywords: Thrombocyte aggregation, adrenalin, blood sample
