Abstract
Backgrounds : Bacteremia is a dangerous systemic bacterial infection by having a high mortality rate after it became worse as a sepsis. Rapid and decisive empirical therapy of antibiotic has a central part on the patient prognosis. On the other hand it is well known that the profile of ethiological agent and its antibiotic susceptibility continuously changed. Therefore monitoring of ethiological agents and its antibiotics susceptibility profiles should regularly done to provide an accurate and reliable basis to give empirical therapy. Also some of the risk factors of bacteremia should be found to be able to decrease the bacteremia insidens. Methods : Retrospective data was taken from the patient blood cultures and sensitivity test in microbiology laboratorium of Dr. Kariadi Hospital and from medical records of Dr. Kariadi Hospital. Results : The main ethiologies of bacteremia are Staphylococcus, Enterobacter, and Pseudomonas. The results from antibiotic sensitivities indicate that low sensitivity of bacteries to penicillins, chloramphenicol, cotrimoxazole, and aminogyicosides varies. The risk factors of bacteremia are the use of infuse, cathether, having diabetes mellitus, UTI, and pneumonia. Keywords : bacteremia, ethiological patterns, susceptibility, risk factors, geriatry.
