PENGARUH PEMBERIAN MINYAK Pandanus conoideus TERHADAP GAMBARAN HISTOLOGIS GINJAL PADA MENCIT SWISS YANG DI INFEKSI Plasmodium berghei ANKA

Abstract

Background : The increasing of malaria cases in Indonesia and the turning up of severe malaria symptoms which cause fatal problems will increase the morbidity rate. Pandanus conoideus contains high antioxidant elements activate cellular and humoral immunity to eliminate the paracitisized erythrocyte in blood vessel. This experiment compared the effect of Pandanus conoideus on the kidney histological appearance of Plasmodium berghei ANKA infected Swiss mice with control group. Method : The design of this study was an Post Test Only Control Group Design. This study used 14 adult healthy female mice, which were divided randomly into 2 groups, 1st treated group and 2nd control group. The treated group was given 0.05 cc of Pandanus conoideus orally after infected with Plasmodium berghei ANKA on the 1st day. Both groups were infected through intraperitoneal injection with mice blood which contained Plasmodium berghei ANKA. On the 6th day mice were terminated, to make the kidney preparat to observe the damage of the kidney. The data was analyzed the normality with Saphiro-Wilk test then followed with Mann-Whitney test. Result : The damage of the kidney histological appearance of the treated group was lower than the control group. There was mean difference with p = 0,002. Conclusion : Infusion of Pandanus conoideus oil significantly reduce the degree of kidney histological damage during infection of Plasmodium berghei ANKA.
