Abstract

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic fever is an acute hemorrhagic fever which its manifestation is bleeding and shock, and it can cause death. Prevention is needed to break Aedes aegypti’s infection circle. Traditional medicine had been known by many people and used from generations. They used mainly in health promotion and prevention, though some used curative too. We’re concerned thinking of using traditional medicine to prevent Dengue Hemorrhagic fever spreading infection. The most effective methods of prevention by killing Aedes aegypti’s larva to break their living circle. Objective: To compare the effectiveness between abate and betel extract in inhibit Aedes aegypti’s larva growth on container Method: This research is an experimental, and the design used in this research is parallel design with matching. We used 9 containers with betel extract and 9 containers with abate, each contains 20 instars III/IV of Aedes aegypti’s larva, and the outcome is the mean of larva’s death. Data obtained will be tested with Kolmogorof-Smirnov test and continued with independent t- test to check which one is more effective. Result: There is significant difference between the mean of larva’s death caused by abate than betel extract. The mean of larva’s death caused by abate is 20.0000, while the mean of larva’s death caused betel extract is 17.7778. These results were tested by independent t-test and significance rate was 0,019. Conclusion: The mean of larva’s death caused by abate is bigger than betel extract, so Abate is more effective than Betel Extract in inhibit Aedes aegypti’s larva growth Keywords: Aedes aegypti’s larva, abate, betel extract.
