Abstract

Background: Rumput mutiara (Hedyotis corymbosa) is a kind of plants which is commonly used as a traditional medicine and contains asperulosid, flavonoid, ursolic acid, oleanic acid, and triterpene acid which functions as anti microbial and anti inflamation. Tifoid fever is caused by Salmonella typimurium. This study is aimed to observe the effect of Hedyotis corymbosa on ROI (Reactive Oxygen Intermediate) production during the macrophage phagocytic activity in Balb/c mice infected with Sallmonella typhimurium. Methods: An experimental study with The Post Test Only Control Group Design was carried out on sample, consisted of 30 Balb/c mices, devided into 6 groups, K1 was control group which was only given a standard diet, K2 was a group which infected by Salmonella typhimurium on the 10th day, K3 was given 80 mg Hedyotis corymbosa on the 1st day until the 14th day without infected with Sallmonella typhimurium. P1, P2, P3 were given Hedyotis corymbosa 24 mg, 80 mg, 240 mg each group on the 1st day until the 14th day and also infected by Salmonella typhimurium on the 10th day. Then observed the ROI production with NBT (Nitroblue Tetrazolium) methode. Result: According to the results of the One Way Analysis of Variance Test (ANOVA) there was no significant difference between the experiment group treated with Hedyotis corymbosa and the control group (p>0,05). Conclusion: Hedyotis corymbosa has no role to improve ROI (Reactive Oxygen Intermediate) macrophage. Keywords: Reactive Oxygen Intermediate (ROI), Hedyotis corymbosa, Salmonella typhimurium
