Abstract

Backgrounds : Phaleria papuana is one of herbal medicine that have multifunction. The leaves of Phaleria papuana contain lignan component (polifenol) and the rind of it contains flavonoid. Flavonoid component could increase IL-2 activation and lymphocytes proliferation. Lymphocytes proliferation can influence CD4+ cell, then cause Th1 cell activation. The activated Th1 cell will influence SMAF that can activate macrophage. Objectives : to know the effect of Phaleria papuana’s (mahkota dewa) fruits extract to The Phagocytosis Activity of Macrophage in Balb/c mice. Methods : This study was an experimental laboratory research with post test only control group design. The object of the study were 25 male Balb/c mice. They were divided into 5 groups : K as control group. P1,2,3,4 as experimental groups, which were given 0,2ml; 0,4ml; 0,8ml and 1,5ml of Phaleria papuana’s fruits extract for 2 weeks. Result : Means of macrophage’s phagocytosis index : K = 0,41; P1 = 0,62; P2 = 1,22; P3 = 0,27; P4 = 0,69. The statistics result test among all groups show significant difference (p=0,001). The comparation of groups that have significant outcome are : K-P2 (p=0,004), P1-P2 (p=0,047), P3-P2 (p=0,001). There is no significant different between K-P1, K-P3, K-P4, P1-P4 with p=1,000 and also between P1-P3 (p=0,836), P2-P4 (p=0,114), P3-P4 (p= 0,382). Conclusions : Administrated of Phaleria papuana’s fruits extract have significant increase to The Macrophage’s phagocytosis activity in Balb/c mice on P2 groups with dose 0,4ml/sonde every day for 2 weeks. Keywords : Phaleria papuana, phagocytosis macrophage
