Abstract

Backgrounds : In Indonesia, breast cancer’s prevalence is the second grade after cervix cancer. Many people use Gynura pseudochina as a treatment for breast cancer. This treatment has an aim to increase immune system, especially cellular immunity which involves macrophages. Objectives : To observe the influence of Gynura pseudochina’s tuber extract on macrophages phagocytosis activity of C3H mice inoculated with adenocarcinoma mamae cell. Methods : This study was an experimental laboratory research with the post test only control group design. The object of the study were 25 female C3H mice, devided into 5 groups: K- (were not given a treatment), K+ (inoculated with cancer), P1, P2, and P3, which inoculated with cancer then each of it were administered with 0,123 mg, 0,246 mg and 0,492 mg of Gynura pseudochina’s tuber extract. After three weeks, each mice was terminated then the peritoneal macrophages were isolated for examinating the macrophages phagocytosis activity. Result : The comparation of groups that have significant outcome are: K+ and K- (p=0,001), K+ and P2 (p=0,000), K+ and P3 (p=0,004), also between P1 and P2 (p=0,013). Conclutions : The administering of 0,246 mg and 0,492 mg Gynura pseudochina’s tuber extract in C3H mice inoculated with adenocarcinoma mammae cell can increase macrophages phagocytosis activity than the positive control group. Keywords : Adenocarcinoma mammae, Gynura pseudochina’s tuber, Macrophages phagocytosis.
