Abstract

Problem that has occurred in culturing of Cherax sp is the difficulty to provide juvenile on certain amount and also appropriate of quality standard. In addition, the main problem from this point of view is reproduction aspect. Therefore, this problem needs engineering factor to solve that, and one of the methods is environmental engineering. Manipulation or environmental modification is well-known as important method which support on hatching process. By using shelter as part of hatching media is expected to localize moving space of Cherax broodstock and will prevent cannibalism on hatching juvenile. This study was investigating three treatments which are non-shelter, using wire-net shelter and plastic plate shelter on recirculating system aquaria in Cherax broodstock rearing process to determine hatching rate and survival rate until 10 days age juvenile. Keywords: Cherax, shelter, environmental manipulation
