Abstract

Background : Gynura pseudochina (GP)’s tuber is used as herbal medicine for treating cancer. Flavonoid, an active substance on its, can stimulate the activity of IL-2 and lymphocyte proliferation. The infiltrating mononuclear cells around the cancer’s cells are an indicator for good prognosis because the growth of cancer will decreased. The objective of this study is to observe the effect of GP’s tuber extract on the amount of infiltrating mononuclear cells around the adenocarcinoma mammae of C3H mice. Methods : An experimental study using post test only control group design. The sample were 20 female C3H mice, divided into 4 groups. They were group K (just has inoculated with cancer cells) , groups P1, P2 and P3(has inoculated with cancer, then has given with GP tuber extract with doses P1 0,12 mg/day, P2 0,25 mg/day, P3 0,50 mg/day) . Result : The number of infiltrating mononuclear cells around the adenocarcinoma mammae C3H mice increased on group P compared with group K (p=0,001). The comparison between group P2 and K, p=0,008; P3 and K, p=0,008; P1 and P3, p=0,008. The comparison between group P1 and K, p=0,033; P1 and P2, p=0,041; P2 and P3, p=0,014. Conclusion : The administration of GP’s tuber extract has an effect in increasing the number of infiltrating mononuclear cells around the adenocarcinoma mammae of C3H mice. The increasing of this infiltrating mononuclear cells was proportional with the increasing of GP’s tuber extract dose. Key words : GP’s tuber, mononuclear cells, adenocarcinoma mammae.
