Abstract

Background : Mahkota dewa (Phaleria papuana) has been known in Indonesian common as anticancer, antiinflamatoid, and antihyperglikemic. Product of Mahkota dewa which has occurred in society, has broad variation dose. Mahkota dewa will be absorbed, distributed, metabolized and excreted in kidney. Kidney which is the main place for excretion, is often damaged by the excreted substance. Toxicity test for ethanol extract of Mahkota dewa has shown toxicity result for Artemia salina Leach. The objective of this study is to prove if there is any histological appearance effects of the Balb/c mice kidneys.. Method : This was an experimental study, using the post test only control group design. The samples were 25 Balb/c mice, randomizes into 5 groups, containing 5 Balb/c mice each. Group K is only given by standard diet. Group P1-P4 were given standard diet and Mahkota dewa with staging dose of 35, 70, 150, 280 µg/day. Result : It was shown in this study that the damage of proximal tubule of the treaten group was significantly higher than control (p < 0,05). Comparison result between groups show significancy for K-P3, K-P4, P1-P3, P1-P4,P2-P4,P3-P4. The other groups, K-P1, K-P2, P1-P2, P2-P3, has shown unsignificancy result (p > 0,05). Conclusion : The administering Mahkota dewa on histological appearance of Balb/c mice can damage the proximal tubules of Balb/c mice’s kidney from dose 35 µg/day. Higher dose causes higher definite damage on Balb/c mice’s kidney. Keywords : Mahkota dewa (Phaleria papuana), proximal tubule, Balb/c mice
