Abstract

Backgrounds : Rumput mutiara (RM) has been used as a therapy on infectious diseases for many years. RM contains many active subtances, such as Kaempferol which able to increase immunity by triggers secretion of IL-2 which will activate macrophage and increase NO production Objective: To identify the effect of multilevel doses RM extract toward NO production in Balb/c mice’s peritoneal macrophage. Methods: This was experimentally research using post test only goup design. The sample consist of 20 Balb/c mice randomly obtained. The sample was divided into 4 groups: K, P1, P2, and P3, which were administered with standard diet, RM extract dose 80 mg, 160 mg, and 320 mg every day. After 14 days those mice were terminated, then macrophage isolation from peritoneum cavity was conducted. Then, counts of NO production was performed using elisa reader . Results: The group K compared to group P1,P2,P3 showed a very significant differences. NO production on dose 320 mg was the lowest value between dose 80 mg and 160 mg. This could be caused by the increasing of NO production suppreses iNOS expression. Conclution: There was a very significant differences among treatment groups doses 80 mg, 160 mg, and 320 mg towards control. Keywords: Rumput mutiara, NO production, kaempferol, immunology.
