Abstract

THE EFFECT OF THE AVOCADO SEED’S POWDER(Persea Americana Mill.) ON THE BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL OF WISTAR RATS LOADED BY GLUCOSE Fiena Monica 1), Suhardjono 2) Background : Avocado seed is one of Indonesian herbal medicine used traditionally by our society to decrease blood glucose. The objective of the research is to prove the effect of avocado seed’s powder containing 13,6 % of tannin to decrease the blood glucose level of wistar rats loaded by glucose. Methods : This was an experimental research using Randomized Pre and Post Test Control Group Design. The sample were 25 male of Wistar rats that were adapted for 1 week and then divided equally into 5 groups by random allocation. All group was fasted for 20-24 hours. The control negative group (K-) was given aquadest; the first treatment group (P1) was given avocado seed’s powder with 0,315g/kgBW dose, the second one (P2) was given avocado seed’s powder with 0,63g/kgBW dose, the third one (P3) was given avocado seed’s powder with 1,26g/kgBW dose; and the control positive group (K+) was given acarbose with 6,3mg/kgBW dose. Then all groups were loaded by glucose with 6,75g/kgBW dose. The blood glucose level was measured by glucometer on 7 level of time, before and after given the treatment of each group and after the loading of glucose in minute 0, 15, 30, 60 and 120. Results : By NCSS PASS program, the distribution of data wasn’t normal with p=0,000056 (p<0,05) so further tested by Kruskal-Wallis. The result was there was no significant difference between the reduction of blood glucose level of each groups with p=0,054238 (p>0,05). According to the Area Under Curve (AUC), K(-) group was 816,9; P1 group was 756,1; P2 group was 715,6; P3 group was 694,3 and K(+) group was 712,1. Conclusion : The administration of avocado seed’s powder reduce blood glucose level of wistar rats loaded by glucose but there were no significant differences between groups.
