STUDI TENTANG PEMILIHAN JURUSAN/PROGRAM CALON MAHASISWA BERDASARKAN JENIS KELAMIN

Abstract

The education system in Indonesia had a fast development in recent years. The development in education influenced all the women, because women's access in education was the basis to implement the gender equality. This study was conducted to identify the gender ratio of the high school students who had applied to Diponegoro University from 1990 to 1994 through PSSB Programme. The result showed that both the absolute number and the percentage of the women gradually increased during 5 years. The gender bias apparently occured in departements which were believed could fulfill the -men's works- or "women s work". Faculties of Medicine, Public Health, Letters and some departemens in Faculty of Political and Sosial Science were dominated by women applicants. While Faculties of Technique, Marine science and Departement of Physics in Faculty of Physics and Natural Sciences were dominated by men applicants. Sistem pendidikan di Indonesia menga1ami kemajuan yang sangat pesat. Kemajuan ini akan mempengaruhi seluruh perempuan di Indonesia, sebab akses perempuan pada bidang pendidikan merupakan dasar tercapainya persamaan perempuan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan data siswa¬siswi yang melamar masuk ke jurusan/program studi di Universitas Diponegoro lewat Program PSSB, mulai tahun 1990 sampai 1994. Dari data tersebut ternyata bahwa jumlah dan proporsi pelamar perempuan (siswi) secara umum mengalami peningkatan. Bias gender, akan terlihat jelas pada jurusan-jurusan/ program studi yang dianggap mampu menyediakan peluang¬peluang kerja khusus bagi laki-laki atau perempuan saja. Fakultas Kedokteran, Kesehatan Masyarakat, Sastra dan beberapa jurusan di FISIP didominasi oleh pelamar perempuan. Sebaliknya, Fakultas Teknik, PS. Kelautan dan Jurusan Fisika pada FMIPA didominasi oleh laki-laki.
